Hairstyles 2012 - for men

I don't think girls care as much about having the hairstyle that's in right now - We mostly keep our hair long if we have long hair, and we style it as we want because we know that classic style is never out of fashion. Guys, on the other hand, have to care more, because their hair will probably be judged more than any girl's hair. Plus, men's hair trends are a bit before women's!

Therefore, I will guide you through the most trendy hairstyles 2012 for men. Let's begin!

The quiff
Elvis Presley, James Dean, Morrissey... This hair style has been around for a while and it's obvious it's here to stay. Make it modern (runways and campains from D&G, DKNY, and Louis Vuitton) or get inspired by the vintage styles.

Who is it for: What you need is a fuller hairline in the front to get the ideal look, so this style is probably not for the ones with very thin hair or receding hairline. The ideal hair type for this style is thick hair, preferibly wavy or curly.

How to get it: Well imagining you went to the hair dresser yesterday, and you want to style your new quiff hair style! This is a simple way of doing it:
  • Spray your hair with sea salt spray until it's quite moist, almost wet.
  • Start your blow dryer and work your hair upwards with your fingers while drying.
  • Shape your hair into the quiff shape by pulling it forward and then bending it back.
  • Keep working on your roots to get a lot of movement going on!

Undercut (back slick)
This style comes from the 20s and 30s, and is short on the sides with longer hair on top, which is pulled (or slicked) back. Think of actor Douglas Fairbanks, and you get the idea.

Who is it for: Ideally for men with a full hairline, but even for the rest there are ways to make this style work. Personally, I think you have to have a strong face (nice shape to it), in order for this undercut to look good.

How to get it: This style is very simple to maintain once you've left the hair dresser. All you need is hair gel. Don't overdo it though, you don't want to look greasy.

Brit rock
Inspired by British indie bands, this hairstyle hair gotten extremely popular! Burberry Prorsum has some nice examples of this style in their catwalks, if you want some inspiration.

Who is it for: This style works for everybody, but works better on thick hair. There are many different Brit rock hairstyles, so it's all about finding the right one for you. I'm sure it's out there!

How to get it: After getting your hair cut, you can easily style it yourself. But make sure to ask your hair dresser about it as well, just to be sure!
  • Do the whole sea salt spray + blowdryer thing. You're supposed to shape the hair style the way you want it, while drying.
  • Use both of your hands to massage (forwards) some styling wax into the hair.

Obviously there are many more trendy hair styles you could get, but I'm a bit too lazy to write about them all. But do not worry, Google is your friend ;)

The images were found on Google, but I found out are originally from hji.co.uk.
